Suffolk show
This year’s Suffolk show was a great success. Over 2,000 people came to talk to us about waste and recycling in Suffolk and see our creative under the sea display made out of all things recyclable.
Once again, we worked with the Suffolk Waste Partnership alongside their other partners focusing entirely on waste – telling you the whole story of what happens to the things you put in your household bins and take to Recycling Centres. We also had lots of information on ways you can reduce and reuse waste in the first place to benefit the environment and help you save money as well as emphasising the importance of only putting items in your rubbish bin that cannot be recycled or reused.
SUEZ staff were on hand to explain to residents how the facility puts their household waste left after recycling to good use as a fuel to generate electricity. In keeping with the ocean theme, visitors to the stand were able to take part in a challenge to row 20 strokes as fast as possible on a rowing machine with the winner rowing 20 strokes in 20 seconds.
The team were also reminding visitors how to dispose of old electrical items such as kettles, toasters and hair straighteners so that these are reused and recycled and do not end up at the facility. Electricals can be taken to any one of Suffolk’s Household Waste Recycling Centres to be recycled. Selected sites can take them for reuse. For further information visit www.suffolkrecycling.org.uk.
