Volunteering day for B shift at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary
In July our B shift, along with two members of the day operations team, once again chose to spend their Day a Year to Volunteer at the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary.
The team was welcomed by volunteer co-ordinator Beckie, who soon put them to work moving recycled aggregate by wheelbarrow to surface a newly created pathway. The team soon settled into a good working rhythm, with wheelbarrows being filled and moved at a good pace. By the end of the day, they had moved several tonnes of aggregate and completed their task.
The day was not all hard labour though, as the team were treated to an impressive display of amazing aerial manoeuvres by some of the birds of prey.
Beckie highlighted the importance of volunteers in the upkeep of the sanctuary and explained that their support, through man-hours and additional skills, is vital for the breeding and rehabilitation of injured and sick birds of prey in Suffolk.
