Greenest County Awards 2024
On Wednesday 27 March, three members of the Suffolk EfW team attended Suffolk’s Greenest County Awards ceremony that was held at The Hold in Ipswich. These awards highlight individuals, schools, companies, and community groups that strive to make Suffolk the greenest and most sustainable county.
As a bronze sponsor of the awards, SUEZ’s Jim Clarke was asked to present the Waste Reduction and Recycling award. The winners in this category were OBee CIC, a Centre for Environmental Education offering building courses that use natural and traditional methods.
The judging panel were impressed by the amount of effort OBee CIC puts into ensuring that their work has a low impact on the environment. They explained that they achieve this by using natural and sustainable resources, involving local suppliers and engaging with volunteers and local businesses through their outreach work. The ‘Highly Commended’ award was presented to Tools With A Mission, a charity organisation that recycles and refurbishes unwanted tools and equipment to create trade tool kits, which they then send to developing countries in Africa to support the creation of opportunities for self-employment and sustainable livelihoods. Their work reflects their commitment to environmental sustainability, as each year they put 200 tonnes of equipment, that could potentially have gone to landfill, to good use.
